Courses
Alongside creating my ceramic pieces, I run relaxed pottery courses that allow you to experience the joy of working with clay.
These are suitable for adults with all levels of ability and experience. No prior knowledge is needed, and there is no such idea that ‘I am not creative enough!’
The focus of these sessions is to help you connect with the clay and engage with the hand-on experience of creating. I can guide you through throwing on the potter’s wheel, handbuilding with clay or creating wonderful pieces of your own.
In the rush of everyday life, distractions can take us away from ourselves. I hope that in my studio you can find a moment to ground yourself and connect with the process of creating.
INTRODUCTION TO HANDBUILDING
Session run time
10am-1pm (3 hours)
Cost
£80pp
Number of makers
Two makers required, up to four
This three hour session begins by introducing the clay to your hands, and working it in ways that many humans and cultures have engaged with over thousands of years.
-
I will demonstrate the processes, and as you begin to guide the clay into simple forms such as pinch pots and slab pots, I will be there to help you navigate your own creative style.
This session is great for those who would like to explore how to connect with clay, and gain an overview of some of the processes involved.
There is no pressure, no expectations, and with a maximum of 4 makers in the studio at any one time, you will receive as much guidance as you need.
-
Learn different styles of hand building and finish the session with handbuilt slab mug.
At the end of the session you can choose up to two pieces to be glazed and fired for you to take home.
This can be a long process, so they will be available for pickup in 4-6weeks. I will email when these are ready and we can arrange pickup.
Throwing Experience
Session run time
3 hours
Cost
£80pp
Number of makers
Two makers required
Throwing Experience is a three-hour class working with stoneware clay.
This session focuses on introducing you to the art of throwing, and honing your techniques in a supportive and relaxed environment.
-
The session begins with an introduction to Endre and the clay. I will then give a demonstration so you know what to expect from your time, explaining the steps of centering and shaping the clay.
We can take the session at your own pace, creating simple forms such as cylinders, until you feel comfortable with the process.
Your session will give you enough time to create a few small simple forms, such as cylinders and bowls.
I have been throwing for over 30 years, and recognise that we will all approach the creative space with different experiences. The process can be taken at your own pace, with as much time as you need to feel comfortable with each step.
There will be a break half way through the session. Tea and coffee will be available.
-
This session will give you enough time to create a few small simple forms. You will learn how to centre and shape the clay, creating forms such as cylinders and bowls.
My throwing sessions are a chance to enter a space where process is celebrated, where you can connect and ground yourself, quieting the world outside.
At the end of the 3 hour session, you can choose two pieces to be fired and glazed.
You can choose to have more pieces fired for a materials charge.
Firing and glazing can be a long process and can take up to 4-6weeks. I will get in touch when your pieces are ready and we can arrange pickup.
